Location

  • Address: 135 Faneway, Maidenhead, England
  • Building Type: Attached House, Front Garden/ Driveway
  • No. of rooms Filmed in: Five
  • Permit: Signed by house owners

Many of the locations I observed in film opening analysis were large houses, however we did not have access to classically big house. However this we feel contained some advantages as we feel wed just have to work harder to create creepy effects as the large houses often portray an isolating location and gives a 'lots of places to hide' effect. We also felt that this could make it more relatable/ recognisable for most people as not everyone lives in massive estate houses.

The bedroom scene we thought would work well as the character that lives in that room is well suited to the room. Another reason we felt it would make a good location was the large amount of squeaky floorboards and creaky doors, something often used to create a spooky atmosphere.

For certain shots as well we felt the location could work well, such as the shot from outside looking in and the lights go out. This is due to the sturdy roof under the window that I knew i could use to stand on when filming that shot.

Another shot where I knew this specific location would be good for is the first one because i knew it would be effective for the POV shot due to the placement of bushes.

                                                 2nd Location

  • Address: 02 Maidenhead Court Park, Maidenhead, England
  • Area: Front Garden
  • Permit: Signed by owners of property
  • no. of shots taken: 2

At the time we found the weather conditions favourable for the atmosphere we were trying to depict. As we needed to create the impression that someone was making there way to the main setting (first location- house) we realised we'd need to film somewhere different. We liked the trees/ landscape of the area and the already available lighting from the close by street lights. We felt it would be safer to film the introduction here rather than the streets outside the primary film location as we couldn't get the roads blocked, we also like the idea that it gave the impression the murderer had to go through fields to get to the house, making the first location seem more isolated and therfor dangerous.
